Beautiful Dollz is for you; hiding upstairs at the Forta Leza is a unique and truly captivating doll gallery.
Mary Belcher, for the first time, has opened her private collection of Jan Mclean Dolls to the public. "This is a wonderful privilege to show off one of New Zealand's talented artists and to share my treasured collection with other doll enthusiasts", Mary says.
Once upstairs you enter into magical themes from Titanic to Moulin Rouge, and of course the dolls are the highlight of the gallery.
Mary met Jan 23 years ago at a Tauranga doll show, both connecting through their love of beauty and anything sparkly. Friendship grew throughout the many stages of Jan's ever-changing styles and achievements; from small shows right though to international awards for her craft.
The Beautiful Dollz gallery is the culmination of a dream and vision Mary had for her ever-expanding doll collection. When you enter the gallery you are transported into the deliciously bright and funky world of the Lollipop girl. Vibrantly modern 26-inch Lollipop girl dolls stand tall amidst a colour palate coordinated in their bright signature colours, set in a room complemented by a stylish coloured chandelier, neon jukebox and spotted changing room curtains. "For the Lollipop room I thought colour! Colour! Colour!" Mary said.
From there you can indulge yourself in the Parisian world of the flirtacious French Floozie dolls with their fabulous frocks all set for a cabaret. Take a trip back in time to the romantic era of the infamous titanic with Molly Brown. You can imagine the hustle and bustle of the aristocratic London lady dressed in the Victorian fashions suitable for the Opera.
